I decided to write a review on Hot Tool Flat Irons since I currently own two (that have been hiding under my bathroom sink for over 2 years now.)

I have naturally curly hair (and I am not talking wavy, I mean curly!) that I keep just below shoulder length. About 7 years ago I decided to stick with cuter straight cuts which meant I needed a good hair straightener. I started off by getting my hair chemically relaxed but within 2 months my springy curls were back in business. So I went back for a chemical relaxing treatment again and this time I decided to buy a flat iron from my salon. My hairdresser actually favored Hot Tools and talked me into spending $80.00 for the Hot Tools Professional Flat Iron Model 1190.

When I purchased it, ceramic flat irons were all the rave but they also were a lot pricer and I wasn’t convinced that spending $150.00-$200.00 on a flat iron was worth it…yet.

So I began my routine of straightening my hair every morning with my Hot Tools 1190. The plates got hot very quickly and I honestly never burned my hands while using it.

It was also great that there was no product buildup on the iron after using it. In fact, it still looks new today even though I have owned it for about 7 years now.

The only drawbacks was it didn’t feel like it was moisturizing my hair. I would even go as far to say that it felt like it was causing some thermal damage; although I cannot completely blame the iron for that since I was uneducated in purchasing thermal protectant sprays or gels to help with that.

The Hot Tools Flat Iron 1190 sells for about $16.99 on Folica.com right now and I think it is actually not a bad price for this iron. I would just recommend buying a good thermal/heat protectant to apply to your hair such as CHI Silk Infusion.
